A series of officially timed races on public tracks and unsanctioned road relays in New York City. We began the series at the East River track in October 2019 as a one-off morning of 5000s—hence the name East River 5000. We’ve branched out to other tracks and other formats, but we’d already bought this domain so here we are. Besides, it turns out if you add “5000” to just about any word or phrase, it sounds good. This led to the Superfund 5000, the Victory 5000, and the Legendary 5000.
Keep an eye on the IG @eastriver5000 for race announcements and updates, as well as little nuggets of running history and sweet vintage t-shirts (or ones inspired by them). Each shirt, hoodie, or jacket at an East River 5000 race features a unique work of art by an artist within the running community. We’re committed to bringing some of the whimsy and design that defined running culture in the 1970s and ’80s back to the sport, and minimizing the corporate angle. It’s just running; it should be fun.
